Volkswagen’s New Tayron Life SUV Arrives in India, Built at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Plant

Volkswagen has introduced the Tayron Life, a locally manufactured entry-level version of its Tayron SUV, priced at Rs 41.99 lakh in India.

Volkswagen has rolled out the Tayron Life in India, a new entry-level version of its Tayron SUV priced at Rs 41.99 lakh ex-showroom. The model will be manufactured locally at the company’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar facility in Maharashtra, and is positioned to rival the Skoda Kodiaq and Jeep Meridian.

Priced roughly Rs 5 lakh below the range-topping R-Line trim, the Tayron Life is aimed at buyers who want the SUV’s core features without its sportier styling package. Bookings are open online and through VW dealerships, with deliveries expected shortly.

The Life variant drops the R-Line’s gloss-black exterior elements, with the front grille, wheel arch cladding and rear bumper finished differently, plus a revised front bumper featuring L-shaped grille inserts and a silver trim piece. It retains the same Matrix LED headlamps, illuminated Volkswagen badge and full-width LED light bar as the flagship trim.

Measuring 4,792mm in length with a 2,789mm wheelbase, the Tayron Life sits on 18-inch wheels, an inch smaller than the R-Line’s 19-inch units. The most significant change is inside: the third row of seats has been removed, making it a five-seater. Despite the lower positioning, it keeps a 15-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, three-zone climate control, ventilated and massaging front seats, dual wireless charging, a 360-degree camera, nine airbags and Level 2 ADAS.

Power comes from the same EA888 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine as the R-Line — 204hp and 320Nm — paired with a 7-speed DCT gearbox and all-wheel drive, though the Tayron Life gets an 8-speaker sound system rather than the R-Line’s 11-speaker Harman Kardon setup.
